Quai du Val

A Relaxed Base for Golfing Holidays in Brittany

Quai du Val was never planned as a golf base. It began simply as a small riverside house, somewhere we thought of mainly as a place to slow down. A place for walking by the water, reading and letting days pass without much of a plan.

Only gradually did we start to notice how naturally golf fits into a stay here. Not because the house was designed for it, but because of where it sits and what surrounds it. Golf became something you could choose to do, rather than something everything revolved around.

If you enjoy golf but would rather avoid a purpose-built resort, Quai du Val offers a calmer way to stay. Golf sits comfortably alongside quiet evenings, coastal days out and an unhurried pace.

Playing Golf Near Dinan

Staying in Léhon makes it surprisingly easy to play golf near Dinan without feeling tied to a single course. From Quai du Val, some courses are close enough for a relaxed half-day round, while others work well as coastal outings when you feel like going a little further.

We are not golfers ourselves, so this was not something we set out to highlight. But once you start looking, the number of courses within an easy drive becomes clear and that flexibility is what appeals to many guests. Golf can be part of the stay without needing to dominate it.

Some of the closest options are only a short drive away. Les Ormes Domaine & Resort, around 25 minutes from Léhon, offers a well-kept 18-hole course in a spacious, landscaped setting. A a convenient choice if you want to fit in a round without spending much time on the road.

Saint-Malo Golf Resort, roughly 30 minutes away, sits inland in gently rolling countryside. It has a calm, open feel and is popular with visiting golfers who prefer a quieter setting for a full round.

Also nearby, Golf de Gaea Lancieux is a more compact course close to the coast. Its location makes it easy to combine golf with a seaside walk or lunch by the water, especially on days when you want to keep plans light.

The course everyone mentions

For many golfers, however, the course they plan around is Golf de Dinard in Saint-Briac-sur-Mer. This is the course most people already know about before they arrive and, for many visiting golfers, it is the reason they bring their clubs in the first place. It is widely considered the flagship course in the area, it is a classic links course with sea views and changing winds that give each round a different character.

If you only have time to play one course during your stay, this is usually the one people choose.

A little further along the coast, Golf de Saint-Cast Côte d'Émeraude has a more open, rugged feel with wide views and a strong sense of being by the sea. Many visitors like pairing this course with Saint-Briac during the same stay.

If you are in the mood for a longer coastal drive, Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf-Val-André offers a full 18-hole course in a very scenic setting. It works well as a day that combines golf with lunch by the sea.

There are also quieter, more local options inland. Golf des Ajoncs d'Or has a friendly atmosphere and feels less busy, while Golf de la Crinière is smaller and more relaxed, which suits mixed abilities or a shorter round. If you are researching where to play golf near Dinan, the Leading Courses listings for the Dinan and Brittany area provide a helpful overview of nearby courses, along with reviews and practical details. It is a useful starting point for comparing options and planning a stay that includes more than one round.

Coming Back Somewhere Calm

After a day on a golf course, most people are not looking for much. A shower, a good meal and somewhere quiet. That is where Quai du Val works well. The house sits directly on the River Rance and evenings tend to be slow and peaceful. Some guests cook, others head into Dinan and some simply sit by the water and do very little at all.

There is no schedule here and nothing you are expected to do.

Who This Suits Best

Quai du Val is not designed for large groups or golf societies. It suits people who prefer space and independence, such as:

• Couples mixing golf with sightseeing
• Friends planning a few rounds rather than a packed itinerary
• Golfers travelling with someone who does not play

While one person is out on the course, the other can explore Léhon, walk into Dinan or spend time along the river. It rarely feels like a compromise.

Golf, but not only Golf

Golf in Brittany does not dominate the trip unless you want it to. The days here naturally leave room for long lunches, coastal drives and wandering without much of a plan. From Quai du Val, it is easy to alternate golf days with quieter ones.

Thinking About Staying at Quai du Val?

If you are planning a golfing holiday in Brittany and want somewhere peaceful, characterful and well placed for exploring several courses, Quai du Val is a good fit.

Many of our guests travel from the UK and Ireland and Brittany often appeals because it feels both familiar and refreshingly different.

Coastal golf here shares something with links courses back home but with quieter fairways, good food and a slower pace once the round is finished. Being able to drive to several courses from one base is something many visiting golfers appreciate.

It is not about selling a package or promising a certain experience. It is simply a comfortable base in a lovely part of Brittany that happens to work well for golf too.
