Local markets around Dinan and the Côte d’Émeraude

Looking for a market to visit during your stay near Dinan? Our guide brings together local markets by day of the week, from Dinan and Dinard to the Côte d’Émeraude and further afield. Pick up something for lunch, stop for a coffee and leave a little time to explore the town afterwards.

We’ve enjoyed visiting many of these markets ourselves, from Dinan and Combourg to the coastal markets of Dinard, Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, Saint-Briac-sur-Mer and Saint-Lunaire. Below, you’ll find a guide organised by day of the week, with seasonal notes and links to the tourist offices to help you plan your visit.

As partners of Dinan–Cap Fréhel Tourisme, we’re pleased to share ideas for exploring the area. Each market guide includes a link to the relevant tourist office for the latest information.

Choose your market day

Monday

Start the week with a market morning in Saint-Malo or Combourg. In July and August, Saint-Briac-sur-Mer offers another coastal option.

Saint-Malo: Rocabey

Monday morning · All year
One of Saint-Malo’s local neighbourhood markets, with market days also on Thursday and Saturday. Saturday is its main market day.

Combourg

Monday morning · All year
We visited in October and found a decent-sized market, making it a good option outside the summer months.

Saint-Briac-sur-Mer

Mon morning · Jul/Aug only
A separate summer market with a wider selection of stalls to browse and enjoy in the heart of the village than the town’s regular Friday market.

Tuesday

Choose to spend a morning by the coast in Dinard or explore a different side of Saint-Malo at one of its many neighbourhood markets.

Dinard

Tuesday morning · All year
A well-known market with food and other stalls around the covered halls. Its busiest summer days bring a much larger gathering of traders.

Saint-Malo: Saint-Servan

Tuesday morning · All year
A mixed market on Place Bouvet, with outdoor stalls and covered halls. It also takes place on Fridays.

Saint-Malo: Intra-Muros

Tuesday morning · All year
A smaller covered food market at Halle au Blé, within the old town walls, ideal for a wander through Saint-Malo’s historic streets. It also on Fridays.

Wednesday

There’s plenty of choice for a midweek Wednesday market visit, with year-round options in Saint-Malo, Rennes and Matignon.

Saint-Malo: Paramé

Wednesday morning · All year
A mixed market with food and other stalls on Place Georges Coudray, ideal for picking up a few things for lunch. It also takes place on Saturdays.

Rennes: Sainte-Thérèse

Wednesday morning · All year
Regular weekly market.
A mixed market on Place du Souvenir, selling food alongside non-food goods.

Matignon

Wednesday morning · All year
A town-centre market that grows considerably in summer, making the season an important part of what to expect on your market visit.

Thursday

Thursday brings three options for a markets: stay close to home in Dinan, head to Dinard or venture to Lamballe for a change of scenery.

Dinan

Thursday morning · All year
The main weekly market fills Place Duguesclin and Place du Champ Clos, within easy reach of the old town’s shops and cafés for a browse too.

Dinard

Thursday morning · All year
Another opportunity to visit Dinard’s outdoor market and covered halls. Larger during the summer season.

Lamballe

Thursday morning · All year
The town’s main weekly market, with food, clothing and other stalls. This is the larger market to choose when planning a visit to Lamballe.

Friday

Finish the week with a market morning in Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, Saint-Briac-sur-Mer or Saint-Malo.

Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer

Friday morning · All year
The peninsula’s weekly market is an opportunity to combine some shopping with a leisurely wander through the village and a walk along the coast afterwards.

Saint-Briac-sur-Mer

Friday morning · All year
The regular market on Place du Marché. This is a smaller gathering than the separate Monday market held in July and August.

Saint-Malo: Saint-Servan

Friday morning · All year
Food and other stalls gather on Place Bouvet, alongside the covered halls, making it a handy stop for buying lunch.

Saturday

Saturday offers everything from a local shopping trip to a full day out, including Rennes’ fab food market.

Rennes: Marché des Lices

Saturday morning · All year
A fabulous food market we’ve visited ourselves, with stalls in and around the historic market halls. Leave time to explore Rennes afterwards.

Dinard

Saturday morning · All year
A weekend opportunity to browse Dinard’s market and covered halls, with a larger selection of outdoor stalls in the summer season.

Dol-de-Bretagne

Saturday morning · All year
A large weekly market in the town centre, which you could combine with a wander through Dol’s historic streets.

Sunday

Make Sunday morning part of your holiday routine with a visit to Saint-Lunaire or Cancale, both with amazing coastlines.

Saint-Lunaire

Sunday morning · All year
The market centres on the halls in quieter months, but becomes much bigger in spring and summer, with many more outdoor stalls.

Cancale

Sunday morning · All year
The weekly town-centre market is separate from Cancale’s daily oyster market on the port. Why not include both in the same visit!

Lamballe

Sunday morning · All year
A small gathering of producers for food shopping. For the town’s larger market, choose Thursday instead.

Summer Extras!

Summer brings a few extra markets to explore.

In July and August, visit Saint-Énogat’s Wednesday morning market in Dinard or Saint-Lunaire’s Wednesday evening food market.

Saint-Briac-sur-Mer also has a separate Monday morning summer market.

These seasonal additions are worth keeping in mind when planning your week.

Follow the tourist office links for current dates and times.

Visiting the markets outside summer?

Many local markets run throughout the year, but their size and atmosphere change with the seasons. Summer brings more stalls and busier streets, while quieter months often mean a smaller market focused on food shopping and a more relaxed pace.

Saint-Lunaire’s Sunday market, for example, centres on the halls in quieter months and spreads around the two churches in spring and summer. Saint-Briac’s additional Monday market runs only in July and August.

Aim to arrive earlier in the morning for the best choice, as some traders pack away before the advertised closing time. Bring a shopping bag and a little cash, as not every stall accepts cards.

* Before setting off, check the tourist office links above for current details, particularly for seasonal markets and public holidays. *
